In a market run by the likes of Domino’s, Pizza Hut, and Papa John’s, there is a little east coast company that is proving that it is possible to pay fair wages in this industry. That shop is &pizza (pronounced and pizza).
With 36 current locations, Michael Lastoria hope’s to have just over 40 by the end of the year. He is not just making delicious food, he is investing in his crew. With over 700 employees, they average over $2 above their local minimum wage. He values paying a living wage. He is even working to automate some of the monotonous aspects of business, but he is not cutting his work force.
By not only investing in building a good business, he is investing in livelihoods. People are given the opportunity to grow with his help. Success is earned.
While I can imagine the customer and business can feel the cost of investment he places in his employees, he feels it is worth it.
How could your business better invest in your employees’ success?
