The business world is, well, quite male dominated. The perception of a top executive is still that of ‘the man’ sitting behind a large desk, ruling the world. (Look at the In Living Color era skits and you will know what I mean.)
So, how do we change that perception? First, it starts by offering more women stepping stone opportunities within organizations.
If you want to change the way your company looks and feels from the outside, you need to offer growing opportunities to different people.
Always consider the skillsets of an individual, not the generalized stereotype of any one group of people. The individual may surprise you. You may find more success once you open up your opportunities outside one generalization.
Most importantly, more people with those skills need to step up and show leaders what they have to offer! No matter your gender, you will not get those opportunities unless you ask for them.
