I am grateful for my weekend breakfasts with my partner.
I never need an excuse to find gratitude. I’ve consistently found gratitude for years. It builds a foundation that my mental health can use when life feels bleak.
The biggest positive reminder I have is how my partner expresses love.
My Love Languages: Words of Affirmation and Quality Time

I’ve always been that person who needs to hear it to believe it. Words, not so surprisingly, melt my heart when honest. My handsome better half is not a man of expression. Not verbally, anyway.
He expresses his love by fixing problems. He’ll do things that he knows I need or want as his way of saying, “I love you.”
I had to learn to read his love language and how to express myself using it.

🛒Etsy Shop Feature. Check out Shannon’s Thrift Shop for a ton of thrifted goods at reasonable prices. As of 7/13/25, you can get a copy of the official book “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman for only $5. Remember, buying from a small business supports a family, not a corporation.
That doesn’t eliminate the power my love language has over me, though.
I still need to hear the expressions. Rather than downplay my needs, he has learned to meet me where I need it. Along with words, I am also someone who needs quality time. He meets me there with our weekend breakfast.
By fulfilling my need for quality time and attentive conversation, he is also using his love language (acts of service) to reflect love back using my love language. I see it and I am grateful for it.
When did you first learn about “The Love Languages?” Do you know what your love language is? I’d love to hear how you hear love best in the comments below. Are “The Love Languages” a game-changer in your relationships?
