One Word Is Never Enough, A WordPress Writing Prompt

There are more words than I can count to describe who I am as a person.

I cannot imagine there is a single word that could encompass everything I believe I am. That is why I chose to answer today’s writing prompt.

Challenge accepted.

What is one word that describes you?

There are so many words that I feel would fit the bill. However, I want to take a moment to hash them out and find one that best encompasses each descriptor.

Let’s start with Altruistic

I am very giving. It is my go-to, knee-jerk reactionary trait. I see someone hurting and immediately want to help. I will give my last dollar. I’ll do myself a disservice to see others do well.

I know what it is like to hurt, and I will bend over backward to help others hurt less.

It is like I want to absorb & suffer just so another does not have to.

What about Misanthropic?

As much as I care, I am also quite cynical of people.

I would like to note that this encompasses my feelings about groups of people. As I am often surprised by individuals and want to help individuals hurt less.

In general, I am cynical about the nature of people as a whole.

I always expect the worst. I wholly give with no expectation because I don’t anticipate others giving in return. Ever.

I do have social anxiety as well. However, I often find I am disappointed in social situations, too. People are never what I hope to see.

I suspect this comes from over 15 years of working in customer service. I saw the worst in people daily.

How about Negative or Depressed?

Fair argument on both accounts. I work hard to reframe my thoughts into a more positive outlook. I keep a gratitude journal for mindfulness practice.

It helps me see the bright side when things don’t feel bright.

I’m also fighting depression on an eternal battlefield. It is always underlying, although it is notorious for showing when my emotional bandwidth drops too low.

Both are effective descriptors of my personality & core self.

That is not all, folks!

Outside of altruistic, that all sounds quite negative, right? I assure you, I am aware of my better traits too!

  1. Funny
  2. Understanding
  3. Perceptive
  4. Generous
  5. Articulate
  6. Artistic
  7. Creative
  8. Intelligent

I have plenty of descriptors. I just don’t think I can choose one.

Challenge failed.

Is there a word that describes you best?
