I was born in 1985, which means I partook of all the fun trends of the 90s.
Lisa Frank
I was obsessed with Lisa Frank stickers and products. I remember working hard to earn enough money to sign up for the Lisa Frank club.
Do you know what the club really was?
Oh, it was an offer of some free stickers and a monthly catalog I could buy from. Talk about some amazing marketing!
“Pay me money, and I will send you our sales catalog to buy from!”
That is the epitome of selling to kids, so they will harass parents to buy them things.
The stickers were a one-time “gift.” Only the sales catalog was monthly.
NanoPets, GigaPets, Tamagotchi, et al
I don’t know if you’re aware, but Tamagotchi still exists in 2026. A couple of years ago, I was given a Hello Kitty Tamagotchi Mini.
Yes, it was very cute. 😂
I did not have Tamagotchi-brand digital pets as much as I loved the Nano and Giga Pet variations. I do believe my very first one was the Nano Baby.
My Nano Baby was also taken from me in class right after I got it, and my mom had to come in to request it back because they were going to keep it.
I remember mom saying, “Oh, the hell they are! It cost $20!”
We weren’t rich enough for a disposable Nano Pet budget.
She went into the office and raised hell. They returned it to her, and I never had another thing taken from me after that.
Furby
I was a collector. I was a teenager, loved them so much, and collected them. What can I say? I was that person.
Actually, I believe I went from collecting Nano Pets to collecting Furbies.
I’ve seen the new one on the market. You know, the weird, furry, snake-like creature they call a Furby. I love it when companies try to market nostalgia. Did you hear the sarcasm?
I will admit that I miss the original, though.
That was a nice walk down obsession’s lane, lol. It has been a while since I thought about those brief moments when I collected the latest trends.
What did you collect?
